Denbighshire Voluntary Services Council (DVSC) is pleased to announce a partnership with local social enterprise Ruthin Artisan Markets CIC to develop an exciting programme of new markets and events at the historic Ruthin Market Hall.
Over the past couple of years DVSC has refurbished and developed Ruthin’s historic Market Hall as an asset for the town, bringing markets back from early 2022.
Ruthin Artisan Markets CIC are a social enterprise with a track record of success in organising regular artisan and food & drink markets in Ruthin and beyond.
Tom Barham, DVSC’s Chief Officer said: “We’re really pleased to join forces with Bernadette and her team at Ruthin Artisan Markets, to grow the market and help more small businesses to get a space to retail their goods in our great Market Town. They have created a great monthly market, making an impact on the vibrancy of Ruthin town centre, and it makes perfect sense to work together”.
We will launch with our regular market on Thursday September 22nd. The market will be open on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with the last Sunday of September and October too. We will be working with local cafes and as such we will be focusing on our seating space being a communal space for all, we want it be Market Hall to be somewhere that people can come together and meet. Together with DVSC Board member Gavin Harris, we have created an innovative new flexible market stall design that can fold away for events.
Bernadette O’Malley of Ruthin Artisan Markets CIC said “We are very excited to be working with DVSC on the Market Hall project, we are looking forward to having an affordable space for our traders to exhibit on a regular basis. The recent changes to the Market stalls have made a dramatic change to the layout, making it brighter and more spacious, meaning we can have indoor seating for our cafe customers too. We would like to welcome customers old and new to experience this revised marketplace”.
As well as a market, the Market Hall project is providing a range of social enterprise activities around food waste and cooking skills and food shopping on a budget, among others. Ruthin Artisan Markets is also working with DVSC, and local community organisations and businesses, to organise a programme of events in the hall. We would like to involve people of all ages and backgrounds so please get in touch if you have an idea for events you’d like to host.
