Better with Books (Wales)

This scheme provides self-help books to children and young people to help them deal with emotional issues and give additional guidance.

Research has shown the effectiveness of high quality self-help books.

Children and young people in particular may find it difficult to talk about their emotions. Reading a book may help them understand their feelings and give them advice on how to cope.  There are also books available to help guide parents and guardians.

Books can be recommended by GPs, school counsellors, school nurses, teachers, youth centre staff and others who might be approached by a young person for some advice / guidance.

Engage to Change

The Engage to Change project is currently running across the whole of Wales to support young people aged 16-25 with a learning disability and/or autism into paid work placements lasting 6-12 months.

We aim to help 1000 of these young people achieve their full potential by developing experience and transferable skills in the workplace through a person-centred approach which will give them further opportunities and enable them to compete in the labour market. To do this we are working with 800 employers over five years, offering job coaching and employment support to both young person and employer.

This project is made possible through funding from the Big Lottery Fund in partnership with Welsh Government.

BECOME A SUPPORTER

Hello again … … today we have a small favour to ask. Volunteers, voluntary and community action and the third sector are at the heart of building more sustainable and resilient communities and we need them more than ever.

DVSC receives core funding from the Welsh Government but we need to raise more money so that we can continue to provide excellent sector support - whether you're a volunteer,  voluntary and community group or a third sector organisation.

We can provide a wealth of information and resources and we want to keep our services as accessible as we can, and to reach as many groups as we can.  So we think it’s fair to ask people who visit us often for their help - if they feel able to give it.

Our Sector Support service is resource intensive, but we are investing in it because we believe providing support to volunteers, voluntary and community groups, charities, social enterprises and community interest companies - has to be at the heart of what we do. If you like what we are about, and you want to help support it, our future would be much more secure.
