DVSC is excited to be launching its Social Media Christmas campaign ‘Tackling loneliness and isolation’. We want to encourage all of our members, partners and supporters to join us in this campaign to promote wellbeing and resilience over the winter months.
Christmas time usually conjures up joyful images of family and friends celebrating, exchanging gifts, excited chatter and delicious food. For some people, however it can be a dreaded, sad and lonely time.
Loneliness does not discriminate by age, gender, community,
background or wealth.
We would like to encourage our DVSC members, partners, supporters, residents and people working in Denbighshire to #Connect4Christmas. This can be done in a number of ways:-
Gift wrap your time this Christmas by visiting denbighshirevolunteers.net/get-involved/ and look at our volunteering opportunities.
Try to do a daily act of kindness: say hello to someone in the street, donate food to your local food bank, pay for someone else’s coffee, hold the door open for someone, bake a cake for your neighbour
If you have a positive message about speaking to a neighbour for the first time or making an effort to visit someone, then let us know what inspired you and how you felt afterwards – nominate yourself for a #giftwrapagreeting Celebratory Shout out by emailing – firstname.lastname@example.org
Please promote our Christmas campaign by using the following hashtags: #Connect4Christmas, #DenbighshireVolunteers, #giftwrapagreeting, #OpenDoors
Our #OpenDoors volunteer led group will be getting involved by holding a #MincePieMoments on the 14th December. Do come and join us at Naylor Leyland Centre, Well Street, Ruthin, LL15 1AF for some festive fun and friendship.
In the build up to Christmas we’ll be offering some handy self-care tips for loneliness between now and Christmas on our social media platforms, Facebook and Twitter, here are a couple to whet your appetite:
Meet someone for coffee and cake (or bake something and invite people over)
Join a local library or even a book club. Did you know that studies have shown that reading increases empathy? Or just enjoy a book by your favourite feel-good author. Now the nights are drawing in, it’s a lovely and cosy way to spend an evening.
