Millennium Volunteering

400th Millennium Volunteer

About Millennium Volunteers:

  • Are you aged between 16-24 years and are interested in or already involved in volunteering?
  • Millennium Volunteers is a UK wide initiative, designed to promote and recognise commitment to volunteering among young people in the 16-24 age range.
  • Young people can choose from a wide range of volunteering opportunities within voluntary organisations or start their own community project with the guidance of a mentor.

For example:

  • work on environmental projects/arts projects
  • coach a sport
  • put on a play in the community
  • help combat drug and alcohol abuse

On completion of 100 hours of voluntary work the young person will receive a certificate

On completion of 200 hours he/she will receive an award of excellence as a means of appreciation for the hard work and commitment put into the voluntary activity.

Benefits to young people

  • Volunteering is a good way of meeting new people
  • It offers challenging and interesting volunteering opportunities
  • It enables young people to acquire new skills and knowledge and is good for developing personal skills
  • It's a good way of acquiring valuable work experience
  • A young person's achievements will be recognised by employers, colleges and the local community, which may therefore help that person find a job or a place at college.
  • It can help make a positive impact within local communities and increase recognition of volunteering by young people
  • To have fun! (and get the t-shirt/cap/award of excellence)
